Pasabaya: Community Carpooling for the Philippines

Building a smarter, social way to find travel companions in the Philippines. No fees, no commissions—just people helping people beat the traffic.

Pasabaya: Community Carpooling for the Philippines

The Energy Emergency and the Daily Grind

Living here in the Philippines, you quickly realize that traffic isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a shared struggle that dictates our daily lives. With the recent declaration of an energy emergency, that struggle has taken on a new urgency. Potential power shutdowns and rising fuel costs mean we need to be more efficient in how we move.

For about a year, I’ve had an idea for a carpooling app. I kept waiting for the “right time,” but seeing how the current situation affects everyone around me, I realized there’s no better time than now to step up.

Carpooling for the Community, Not for Profit

I’m building Pasabaya.app — a smarter, social way to find travel companions.

The philosophy is simple: Pasabaya is not a transport company. I’m not building another ride-hailing giant with hidden fees or commissions. Instead, I took the “pasabay” culture we already know and gave it a better, more organized interface.

Why not just use Facebook or Reddit?

While Facebook groups and Reddit threads are great for finding rides, they aren’t built for it. It’s easy to lose track of posts, and matching with someone heading your way can be a manual, tedious process. I designed Pasabaya to be a digital bulletin board with smart filters specifically for this purpose.

What makes Pasabaya different?

  • 💸 Zero Payments: I don’t handle money. There are no booking fees, no commissions, and no hidden costs. It’s just about sharing the journey and the costs.
  • 🛡️ Facebook-Verified: Trust is everything. You can connect with real people, check profiles, and see mutual friends before deciding to ride together.
  • 🎯 Simple Matching: No complex dispatching algorithms. Just a clean way to find someone heading your way.

From a Student, For the People

I’m Artem Blazhievskii and I’m currently an MIS student at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). I’m building Pasabaya.app as a solo, open-source volunteer project. I believe technology should make our daily lives easier and more human, especially when things get tough. This isn’t a business; it’s a tool I’m creating for the community.

Coming Soon (2026)

The project is still under development, but the landing page is live and the launch is planned for later this year. If you think this could help you or someone you know, please join the waitlist. Your support helps me know that this is a tool worth building.
